The Last of Us: Part I: The Review

The Last of Us: Part I: The Review

Score: 10 out of 10

Overview: "Little is left to be said about The Last of Us: Part I. It's a game that broke the world by telling an engaging story, one of the best in gaming, while also being a near-perfect gameplay experience. It's a modern day masterpiece and one of the juggernauts of the entire gaming industry."

The Positives

  • The visuals in The Last of Us Part I are breathtaking, thanks to the complete overhaul on PS5. The character models, animations, and environments have been completely rebuilt, and the attention to detail is incredible. It’s honestly hard to believe how much better it looks while still capturing the soul of the original;
  • The emotional impact of the story remains one of the best parts of the game. Joel and Ellie’s journey continues to be gut-wrenching, and the moments of hope and despair hit just as hard, if not harder, with the new enhancements;
  • The PS5’s hardware is fully utilized here. The haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and vastly improved graphics all make for an immersive experience. These features take things to the next level, making combat and exploration feel even more intense;
  • I was initially worried that the remake might mess with what made the original great, but thankfully, it stays true to the heart of the game. The core gameplay and story remain intact, but the improvements in combat, AI, and visuals make it feel like a fresh experience without losing any of the magic;
  • The upgraded AI makes combat feel more dynamic and intense. Enemies react more realistically, and the combat sequences are smoother than ever, making the gameplay more satisfying. It’s a noticeable improvement over the original;
  • One of the standout aspects of this remake is its range of accessibility options. There are so many settings that make the game more inclusive for all kinds of players, from visual and hearing aids to gameplay adjustments;
  • Some of the most iconic moments from the original—like the heartbreaking opening sequence—still hit hard in this remake. The visual upgrades make these moments even more intense, which is an impressive feat considering how powerful they were in the first place;
  • Overall, this remake feels like a masterful restoration. The changes made enhance the game without altering the essence of what made The Last of Us so unforgettable. It’s clear that Naughty Dog poured a lot of care into preserving and improving every aspect of the original.

The Negatives

  • While The Last of Us Part I is undeniably gorgeous and faithful to the original, I can’t help but feel that the price tag doesn’t quite match the value. Yes, the visuals have been completely overhauled, but other than a few minor gameplay tweaks and accessibility improvements, it’s largely the same experience. For fans of the original, this may feel like more of a visual upgrade rather than a full-on remake, which leaves me questioning whether it was worth the full price;

The Experience

The Last of Us: Part I is one of those games that stays with you long after you finished it. It's a complete masterpiece from start to finish.  It took us around 15 hours to obtain the platinum but this is a type of game we don't mind revisiting time after time. We will be covering The Last of Us: Part II sometime during 2025.

Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway DLC: The Mini-Review

Astro Bot : Stellar Speedway DLC: The Mini-Review Score: 7 out of 10 Overview : " Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway DLC  is a fun, albeit simple, free DLC expansion for Astro Bot. With 5 short levels, the DLC packs some extra fun to an already great campaign however, it's gone as quickly as it came. It shall be a fun extra challenge for newcomers of Astro Bot but a very short return to players who've finished the game already". The Positives Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway continues the trend set by Astro's Playroom in making some really fun gameplay out of speed run levels; A couple of new Bots are added, continuing to showcase some of PlayStation's newer franchises like Stellar Blade, Helldivers and Rise of the Ronin; The levels being speed run levels do allow for some replayability as you attempt to obtain a better time to beat your friends and top the leaderboard; The Negatives The runtime of the DLC is pretty short, probably not taking you more than 20 minutes to ...
