Ghost of Tsushima: The Review

Score: 10 out of 10

Overview: "Ghost of Tsushima is a breathtaking blend of art, storytelling, and gameplay that elevates the open-world genre. Sucker Punch Productions has delivered a masterpiece, transporting players to the beautiful yet brutal landscapes of feudal Japan. With its fluid combat, emotional narrative, and stunning world design, Ghost of Tsushima is a triumphant ode to samurai cinema and one of the most compelling games of its generation. It’s an unforgettable journey that balances poetic beauty with visceral intensity, earning its place among the finest gaming experiences of all time."

The Positives

  • The island of Tsushima is one of the most visually striking open worlds ever created. From vibrant fields of flowers to eerie bamboo forests and snow-covered peaks, every location is a work of art. The dynamic weather and subtle environmental storytelling bring the island to life, making exploration feel like a meditative experience;
  • The story of Jin Sakai’s transformation from a noble samurai to the vengeful Ghost is a deeply personal and compelling tale. Themes of honor, sacrifice, and the cost of war resonate throughout, and the game handles these with nuance and emotional weight. Memorable characters like Yuna, Lord Shimura, and Khotun Khan add depth to the narrative, ensuring every interaction feels meaningful;
  • The combat system is a masterstroke, combining precision and variety to deliver an incredibly satisfying experience. Players can seamlessly switch between stances to counter specific enemy types, and the blend of samurai duels, stealth tactics, and brutal Ghost techniques ensures battles remain engaging throughout. The sense of mastery as you perfect parries and devastating counters is unparalleled;
  • The game’s innovative approach to navigation, using natural cues like the guiding wind and animals instead of traditional markers, enhances immersion. Every corner of the map hides secrets, from shrines to haikus, that reward players for their curiosity while deepening their connection to the world;
  • Inspired by samurai cinema, the game’s direction is impeccable. The use of lighting, color, and framing creates scenes that feel like living paintings. The Kurosawa Mode, which offers a black-and-white, film-grain aesthetic, is a loving homage to classic Japanese films, further enriching the experience;
  • Unlike many open-world games, the side content in Ghost of Tsushima is as engaging as the main story. From the heartbreaking Tales of Tsushima to the mythic quests that feel like folklore brought to life, every side mission enhances the world and its narrative;
  • Whether you prefer a stealthy approach or honorable samurai combat, the game allows you to tailor your playstyle through various upgrades, gear, and techniques. The armor sets, each with unique perks and appearances, further personalize the experience;
  • The game’s music, composed by Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru Umebayashi, is hauntingly beautiful, perfectly complementing the tone of the story. The ambient sounds of nature and the clash of steel in combat immerse players fully in Tsushima’s world;
  • The multiplayer Legends Mode adds a fantastic cooperative experience, offering players unique challenges and stories inspired by Japanese mythology. It’s an incredible free addition that extends the game’s longevity and showcases Sucker Punch’s dedication to their community.

The Negatives

  • While the world is beautifully crafted, some of the activities, like liberating Mongol camps, can become repetitive over time. However, the variety of approaches and rewards mitigates this to a large extent;
  • Though the combat is exceptional, the roster of enemy types is somewhat limited. While new tactics and stances keep battles fresh, more diverse foes could have further enhanced the experience.

The Experience

Ghost of Tsushima is more than just a game—it’s a journey through art, history, and the human spirit. Its near-perfect execution of gameplay, narrative, and world-building sets a new standard for open-world design. Clocking in at around 40–50 hours for a full playthrough, it’s a game that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll.
Sucker Punch has created a masterpiece that honors the samurai legacy while delivering an unforgettable experience for players. Ghost of Tsushima is a love letter to Japanese culture, a triumph of game design, and an essential play for anyone who values storytelling and artistic vision in their games.

Dreamcore: The Review

Dreamcore : The Review Score:  5.5 out of 10 Overview : " Dreamcore is an atmospheric yet simple exploration of some of the internet's most recent horror tropes. Both levels we played in the review period, felt under-cooked and uninspired making us wanting to spend our time playing other recreations of these famous horror tales." The Experience Dreamcore  shows a lot of promise with its concept, exploring these horror worlds in a different perspective. We'll be taking a look at both levels separately as they features individual positives and negatives: Level 1 ( Dreampools ) - Dreampools is another take on the "backrooms" formula, one that unfortunately, doesn't shine in this new iteration. The puzzle that takes place during the first half of the level is probably the highlight of the entire game by creating a scenario where the player has to be in a constant "focus" mode to solve it. It shows that the developers do know how to make these wor...

Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway DLC: The Mini-Review

Astro Bot : Stellar Speedway DLC: The Mini-Review Score: 7 out of 10 Overview : " Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway DLC  is a fun, albeit simple, free DLC expansion for Astro Bot. With 5 short levels, the DLC packs some extra fun to an already great campaign however, it's gone as quickly as it came. It shall be a fun extra challenge for newcomers of Astro Bot but a very short return to players who've finished the game already". The Positives Astro Bot: Stellar Speedway continues the trend set by Astro's Playroom in making some really fun gameplay out of speed run levels; A couple of new Bots are added, continuing to showcase some of PlayStation's newer franchises like Stellar Blade, Helldivers and Rise of the Ronin; The levels being speed run levels do allow for some replayability as you attempt to obtain a better time to beat your friends and top the leaderboard; The Negatives The runtime of the DLC is pretty short, probably not taking you more than 20 minutes to ...
